Casting of Indrajeet was the biggest sore point for me, personally.

All in all, a good attempt, but could have been much better if the makers had focused more on language and less on CGI. this particular version did attempt to allude to the Ramanand Sagar's excellent version's speech patterns, but fails miserably at times. After making her film debut in Sun Meri Laila (1983), Deepika Chikhalia went on to do many. Of course the language that the showmakers use is indicative of the times we live in (and consequently I find the more modern remakes of Puranas unbearable to watch). Ramayan A Wholesome Treat For Soul, Shouldnt Be Viewed From Political Angle: Deepika Chikhalia. One of the other great flaws of this version is the language. By having the show look fantastical owing to CGI, the creators indirectly portray the epic to be mythological. To many people including yours truly, Ramayana is historical, and not mythological. Except, of course when they use CGI to enhance the sets.

The sets are beautiful, though, for the most part. Ravindra Jain's music score is, as usual, rather flawless. Like the episode of Lord Hanumana displaying Rama and Sita in his heart. Some of its songs struck a chord in the hearts of viewers.

The series has its moments, though, that are really good. Ramanand Sagar brought the Ramayan to every Indian through his TV serial by the same name in the late 1980s. It's funny because Ramanand Sagar's version lacked only on technical grounds, while this one does a horrible job of using technology despite having access to cheap computer power and graphic talent. The CGI is bad, and detracts from the story. There's just too much of it, and it's flat out bad. Even though Ramanand Sagar lacked all that CG imagery back in the 80's, the makers of this version had access to it, and tried to make up for several versions of Ramayana in one go. The major problem, quite ironically, was CGI and technical effects. All the other characters were okay'ish to well cast. The casting is mostly great, though falters quite a bit when it comes to key characters such as Ravana and Indrajeet, The character of Rama and Laxmana is quite accurately portrayed by the actors, though again, Ramanand Sagar's casting was more appropriate. that version was the closest I have found to be able to actually portray the characters of Gods and gods. While Ramanand Sagar's portrayal lacked in the technical department significantly. Attempts to picturize the epic have been made before, and will continue to be made over the decades and years. While Ramayan is being re-telecast on Doordarshan along with several other popular serials of that era such as Mahabharat, Byomkesh Bakshi and Circus - the audience is having a rush of nostalgia, as these shows dominated television in Doordarshan era of Indian television.Īt the end of it all, it was Lakshman who was successful in killing Meghnad and now, Sunil Lahri who played the character shared the epic scene where Lakshman kills Meghnad.Ramayana is eternal. Lakshman gets injured and on 'Vaidya ji's' (doctor) suggestion, Hanuman ji gets 'Sanjivani booti' (medical aid) to cure Lakshman. For the unversed, Meghnad is the son of Raavan. In Ramayan, Meghnad Indrajeet (played by the now late Vijay Arora) attacked Lakshman (Sunil Lahri) on his second day at the fight. 'Lakshman' Sunil Lahri watches Meghnad killing in Ramyan, shares pictureĪctor Sunil Lahri, who played the role of Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, watched Meghnad/Meghnath killing in the show today and posted a picture of the same on social media.
